Projects
CAD Design / 3D printing
Dodecahedron QR Display
I designed a QR code display for use at an Outerspace hardware meetup. Meetups often display multiple QR codes printed on the same page, which are difficult to scan. Although this takes longer to assemble, it solves the scanning issue and serves as a flashy centerpiece.
Test Design / Data Collection / SLA Printing
Auxetics and Foams
I spent the summer of 2022 working for CSAIL, assisting with soft robotics design. I managed 3D prints, designed testbeds, and ran tests. The 3D parts were delicate, so I also needed to hand-place print supports rather than allowing the slicer to fill them in automatically.
Power Tools / Saws / Teaching / Safety
Woodworking
Among many other woodworking projects, I helped build this three-story fort over the course of two weeks. I am familar with most woodworking power tools, and taught students how to read 2D drawings and cut lists, measure cuts, use impact drivers, and use chop saws.
Thermoforming / Injection Molding / Manufacture
YoYo Manufacture Project
Over the course of a semester, my six-person team designed and manufactured 109 identical yo-yos. Each had a sun design on one face and a moon design on the other. I designed textures and art for the faces, CNC milled molds, printed parts, and injection molded and thermoformed parts.
Project Lead
2.009 Product Design
For our senior capstone mechanical engineering class, I co-lead a 16-person team in designing an alpha release of a product. Our product was aimed at mitigating sea turtle birthrate issues caused by global warming. We designed and tested the product based on needs presented by sea turtle researchers.
Leadership / Mechanical Design
High School Robotics
I was mechanical lead, then team lead, for a high school FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team. During my time as mechanical lead, my team advanced to the world championships by winning a mechanical design award. I also taught younger students CAD and time management skills.
CAD Design / Design for Manufacture
3D Printing
I own a FDM 3D printer (an Ender 3), which I use for small household projects, as well as printing TTRPG miniatures. The delicate features of minis are difficult to print on an FDM printer, and require fine-tuning of print settings and support settings.
Data Collection / Data Processing / Thermodynamics
Heat Transfer Research Project
In my measurement and instrumentation class, I worked on a solo research project titled "Denim Fabric as Heat Protection" that investigated how long different thicknesses of pure cotton denim withstood fire temperatures. My findings matched up well with my personal experience of firespinning in denim jeans.
